Global oil prices have fallen sharply over the past year, leading to significant revenue shortfalls and has put Saudi Arabia under enormous economic stress. The Kingdom’s aviation sector is set to play a significant role in the government\'s economic diversification efforts and the Saudi government has already earmarked $10.65 billion (SAR 39.4 billion) to build and upgrade more than 20 airports to help accommodate its fast growing aviation industry. With the successful launch of the Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah, the first airport in Saudi Arabia to be constructed and operated entirely by the private sector following a Build-Transfer-Operate (BTO) Agreement, the regulators have announced the plans to privatize airports as a means to support Kingdom’s finances. This will allow foreign companies to invest in the Saudi Arabian airports without the need for local partners. The Saudi Arabian Airports see an annual increase of more than 10% of passengers and 5% of aircraft operations. 70% of goods bound to the Middle-East are destined for Saudi Arabia and the government is focused to increase its cargo handling capacity to circumvent the need for shipments to transship through neighbouring GCC countries.
The Gulf countries today face many challenges within the Energy Sector such as low efficiency, a soaring growth rate and dependence on the government for subsidies. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has planned over US$3 trillion of developmental projects scheduled to begin construction across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by 2020. The Kingdom is now looking at more sustainable, energy efficient and cost effective methods of cooling along with producing electricity. District Cooling, Cogeneration and Trigeneration play a vital role in energy efficiency and emission reduction. These technologies are also important because of their versatility they can increase the efficiencies of renewable as well as fossil fuel energy sources, and are suited for small, medium and large-scale applications.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s rapidly growing economy, high rate of internet usage, mobile penetration and highly sophisticated infrastructure makes the Kingdom an attractive destination for hackers. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is ranked second globally when it comes to spam attacks and is leading in the Gulf Region in terms of cyberattacks. The market for Cyber Security exports alone is estimated to grow to over $ 37.5 billion by 2016 with a growing rate 10% on the investments on Information Technology (IT) and Software year on year. Due to the growing public demand, there is a huge increase in the private cyber security exports across the energy sector, financial services sector, information technology (IT) sector, and communications sector.
